“Living pharmacies” are a natural source of nutrition and health

When most people hear the word “pharmacy” they don’t envision beautiful, lush gardens.

Malaysian villages are home to medicinal gardens that act as natural living pharmacies full of plants they use as a source of nutrition and health.

One of the components of these living pharmacies is the mangosteen fruit, which is valued for more than its exotic flavor, which mimics a fusion of a passion fruit and a peach. Malays believe mangosteens to contain powerful antioxidants known as xanthones, which may provide an immune boost while also standing up to bacterial and viral infections.

In the Malay world, male sexual prowess and stamina are closely related to man’s spirit.

The herb tongkat ali has traditionally been consumed by Malay men to increase overall energy, support sexual potency, boost metabolism and improve fertility. Luckily, tongkat ali is available to us in supplement form: Physta™ is a patented freeze-dried water extract form of Tongkat Ali. It was developed in collaboration with the MIT Research Center, and is the primary active ingredient in Tenaga.

Maintain your manliness: Beware of low testosterone levels

Besides supporting muscle growth and bone development, testosterone is also responsible for maintaining the male sex organs and male characteristics, such as hair growth and deepening of the voice. It’s basically the core of what makes us “manly”. Although it’s normal for testosterone levels to begin gradually declining after we turn 40, too big of a drop may cause some problems.

Watch out for these warning signs of low testosterone levels:
  • Diminished sex drive
  • Feeling less optimistic than normal, irritability and other mood problems
  • Fatigue and decreased energy; an overall lack of drive and initiative
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Difficulty reaching orgasm
  • Decreased ejaculate volume
  • Testicle shrinkage
  • Increased body fat; particularly around the middle (spare tire) or on the chest (man boobs)
  • Decreased sensation in the genitals
  • Reduced muscle mass
  • Erectile dysfunction
If these symptoms ring a bell, talk to your doctor! Low testosterone levels may increase your risk for some serious conditions, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.

You should also know that cancer treatments may contribute to decreased testosterone levels, so if you’re undergoing chemotherapy or radiation be sure to pay extra attention to the warning signs. The same goes for the obese: you’re also at an increased risk.

Study results support Tenaga’s effectiveness

Reduced sexual potency is a natural part of aging, and affects anywhere from 15 to 30 million men. Results of a new pilot study, conducted by Jay Udani, M.D. are further evidence that Tenaga safely delivers on its promises. Tenaga contains Physta, a patented form of Tongkat Ali.

In the 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 26 older men looking to improve their sexual performance were given either 200 mg/day of Tenaga or an identical placebo.

The men collected data on their sexual performance using a set of validated questionnaires including: Percentage of Successful Sexual Intercourse Attempts, Erection Hardness Scale, Sexual Health Inventory and Aging Male Symptom Score. Safety and tolerability were monitored by blood biochemistry and adverse event observation.

Dr. Udani says that the men who were given Tenaga reported significant improvements in  sexual performance and satisfaction across several clinically important parameters, when compared to the placebo. Tenaga was as well tolerated as the placebo.

Dr. Udani presented his team’s findings on Tenaga during the January 2011 Scripps Natural Supplements: An Evidence-Based Update conference in San Diego. The conference is attended by physicians, naturopathic doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians and other healthcare professionals.

Tenaga is available online, and at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe and other independent retailers.

11 Warning Signs of Low Testosterone

Source: CBS News Health

Whether it's on the basketball court, golf course or at an after-work happy hour, it's rare to spend time with a group of men without hearing at least one joke about testosterone deficiency. But to the estimated five million men who are affected by male menopause, it is no laughing matter. The latest research suggests that guys without enough testosterone face a higher risk of several serious illnesses, including diabetes, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. A simple blood test can reveal whether a guy has low "T," but there are plenty of other clues that a problem exists.

In a follow-up to last Friday's post about the rise of male menopause, here are CBS News' 11 warning signs of low testosterone to help educate and encourage more men to take control of their own sexual health. [Read full article].
