What traditional Malaysian exercise can teach you about vigor and vitality

The Malays may have been onto something. If you want to increase your energy and vitality, and achieve more mind-body balance while you’re at it, try incorporating yoga or tai chi into your exercise routine.

Malay men equate good health with enhanced sexual prowess. For exercise, they have long practiced a series of bodily movements known as senaman asak badan to maintain, nourish, revitalize and prolong their lives. This traditional form of exercise combines breathing techniques with postures and movements; similar to the more-common yoga and tai chi.

Malay men perform these traditional movements and postures to support vigor and vitality, as well as to improve flexibility, agility, endurance and strength. Sessions often begin with some breathing exercises to bring about a better sense of clarity and focus. This is followed by a sequence of postures, with emphasis on specific breathing patterns. Sessions wind down with floor exercises to help the body cool down. The goal of these exercises is to promote a relaxed, balanced body and mind while also enhancing sexuality and masculinity.

Another Malaysian secret to supporting vitality is the herb Tongkat Ali. Malaysian men have been using it for centuries, and research indicates that a standardized form of Tongkat Ali called PhysTA supports male performance and satisfaction. It can be found in Tenaga.
